Welcome to Welshpool
Welshpool is a low-lying town on the River Severn in Powys, Wales, only 4 miles (6 km) from the border with England. The Welsh language name Y Trallwng literally meaning 'the marshy or sinking land'.
Welshpool sits in stunning rolling borderland where walkers can enjoy Offa's Dyke (a mile outside the town), the banks of the Montgomery Canal and miles of local footpaths and bridleways.
The 13th Century Powis Castle - a sandstone castle overlooking the Severn Valley remains the main attraction to the area. It is an impressive sight with its red walls and beautiful gardens. The museum treasures include those brought back by Clive of India.
