Welcome to Oswestry
Oswestry is a border market town that, since the Middle Ages, has brought commerce from both sides of the border. Sandwiched between the rolling hills of the Welsh borders and patchwork plains of Shropshire, the combination of medieval town, independent shops and fine eating establishments creates an attractive ambience.
Nearby attractions include Whittington Castle, Park Hall Countryside Experience and the National Trust Marcher Fortress Chirk Castle. Oswestry also makes a great place to explore the dramatic landscape of the Welsh Borders and is close to Offa’s Dyke long-distance footpath.
The town is famous for its high number of public houses per head of population; there are around 30 in the town today, many of which offer real ale. A story incorporating the names of all of the pubs once open in Oswestry can be found hanging on the walls of The Oak on Church Street.
