Welcome to Leominster
Leominster is the historical home of Ryeland sheep, a breed once famed for its 'Lemster' [sic] wool, known as 'Lemster ore'. This wool was prized above all other English wool in trade with the continent of Europe in the Middle Ages. It was the income and prosperity from this wool trade that established the town and the Minster.
Today Leominster is still a busy market town in the depth of the stunning Herefordshire countryside. With its narrowing streets and abundance of black and white timber framed buildings now housing an array of shops it is well worth a visit.
Leominster provides an ideal base for visiting the many Villages and Towns in the Herefordshire/Welsh Border region, offering a wide and varied choice to suit all tastes. Whether your interest is in history (you can see the last ducking stool to be used in England in 1809 in the Priory church), cider houses, open gardens, local produce markets, the famous Black and White Trail, sporting experiences, or simply relaxing in the stunning countryside, it’s all to be had in Leominster.
