Traditional rural craft and trade courses at Acton Scott

rural craft and trade courses at Acton Scott Working Farm

New Autumn and Winter Courses

Shropshire Council’s Acton Scott Historic Working Farm’s new programme of courses will run during the Autumn and Winter months.

The 15 'Traditional Rural Craft and Trade Courses' on offer from October 2009 to March 2010 will give a chance to try-out a variety of traditional skills, such as tradtional building, rural crafts, animal husbandry and cottage life - giving participants the chance to have a go at everything from butter making and hedge-laying, through to 'Greening Up Christmas' and spending a day in the life of a Victorian farmer's wife.

All the tutors employed to run the courses are experts in their field, some earning their living through the everyday practice of their craft, while others are resident interpreters and demonstrators on the farm.

For more information about the courses, download the new brochure.

To book or to find out more about a particular course please telephone 01694 781307 or email acton.scott.museum@shropshire.gov.uk.

Doubtless the courses at Acton Scott will focus on practicality and craft, but as this video on hedge-laying indicates, for every expertise there comes a point of argument...
