When Water Saves Paper

Water has been coursing through the rocks of Wenlock Edge for millions of years. In the 13th Century it began supplying an ancient Manor House at the heart of a medieval settlement but it wasn't until 1989 that a Church Stretton family established Wenlock Spring to take advantage of the expanding bottled-water market.

Wenlock Spring Bottled Water

Wenlock Spring is now a successful company and reflects the sustainable water source that feeds them in their business philosophy.

Working with The Carbon Trust, they have been constantly reviewing practices, procurement and procedures to minimise the impact that bottling and distribution have on the environment and 99% of all packaging and waste from the Wenlock Spring site are recycled. All the mains electricity used on site is from a renewable energy source, with electricity supplied by Ecotricity, and low energy light bulbs are used throughout all buildings and offices.

Bruce Orme of Wenlock Spring said, Being environmentally aware is a constant process of reviewing our materials and procedures, for instance, we found that most of the waste that left our site was paper. Waste paper is now sorted and baled before it is sent for recycling. We have also introduced air blowers in the cloakrooms to reduce the amount of paper towels used. We also work closely with Parry & Evans who collect our paper and cardboard for recycling and Eurokey who recycle all plastic waste.

It is good to see local companies succeeding and even better to see them working so hard to be environmentally sustainable.
